All babies are wonderfully different, but often small babies prefer to be in an environment reminiscent of the womb, which using a 'swaddle' can mimic. Modern swaddles are ergonomic and have plenty of room for the legs to move freely, while the arms can be enclosed or outside the sleeping bag depending on how you choose to fasten it. The fact that the baby can't kick off the blanket means that he stays warm and comfortable and hopefully sleeps longer at night = win-win.

The sleeping bag can be used with the arms inside the swaddling until the baby shows signs of wanting to turn, then it is important that the arms are free.
